THAILAND LACKS AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS PRODUCTION CAPABILITY Industrial Automation and Robotics 2020 (iAR) – The Industry Driving Force!
Nowadays, technology is changing rapidly. Combined with production that gives priority to the most effective use of resources, zero production waste reduction and precision requirements, together with labor shortages, higher wages, and Baht appreciation make for a driving force that is increasing demand for robots in the country. The number of robots imported in the third quarter of 2019 is as high as 170.19 million baht, an increase of 37% from the same period last year. However, 60.86% of imported robots come from Japan and China 20.97%
For robot exports, Thai exports are still good, increasing 48.36% compared to October 2018, with export value of 17.45 million baht - more than half were exported to India. Clearly, Thailand still lacks production capability in the robot industry and still needs to rely on imports from aboard.

“Robotics & the automation industry is one of the important S-Curve industries. The government has a policy and sets goals. This is the main mechanism to increase the capacity of the manufacturing industry, along with new industries and other industrial sectors. The Ministry of Industry has established key agencies to drive the main mission and implement robotics & automation technology development under the name of the Center of Robotic Excellence (CoRE). This has achieved its goal and achieved clear and concrete results.”
