Thailand Target 34% of the Total Energy from Renewable by 2037 ![]() Renewable and Alternative Energy is the trend globally, and it is going to replace the traditional fossil fuels. These energy resources are more environmentally friendly, produce less air pollution and dust, and also help reduce global warming. The global economic trend for the next 10-20 years will be focused on reducing carbon dioxide (Carbon Neutrality). Thailand is aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20-25% by 2030.
Thailand has been among the leading countries in Asia in promoting alternative energy development via government policies and investment incentives. The latest Renewable and Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP) 2018 – 2037 were approved by the Thai Government Cabinet, constitutes a framework and direction of the country's renewable energy development which focus on reduce environmental impacts and promote the production of electricity from renewable energy resources. ![]() According to the latest AEDP 2018, the proportion of renewable and alternative energy for power generation has been increased to 34.23%. The Six types of electricity generation were added to the plan: Solar 15,574 MW, Biomass 5,786 MW, Wind 2,989 MW, Biogas (wastewater / waste / bio plants) 928 MW, Municipal solid waste 900 MW, Industrial waste 75 MW, Small hydro 188 MW, and Large hydro 2,918 MW.
With this trend and the Government investment incentives, the renewable energy and related industry in Thailand is expected to growth further in the coming years.
