Thailand Ministry of Energy Presses Forward with Green Business, Aiming for Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 15 Years
Thailand aims to become carbon neutral by 2045, or in the next 15 years. The Ministry of Energy is promoting green businesses in their quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
At present, Thailand is contributing approximately 350 million tons per year of carbon emissions. Most releases are from household energy consumption and the transport sector with a combined total carbon emissions of around 250 million tons per year and emissions in the electric power sector contributing 100 million tons per year.
To achieve the goal, the Ministry of Energy is promoting the use of renewable energy including production from wind, biomass and solar including developing energy storage technology. For the transport sector, the ministry aims to reduce carbon emissions by at least 50% through a policy to promote the use of EVs, with a target of 30% of the domestic car production, or about 700,000 units by 2030.
